Automated identification
of current sheets in the solar wind

Welcome to the website of the IKI-IZMIRAN inter-institutional project on current sheets!

This is an open access multi-year database of current sheets 

systematically identified with the one second resolution at 1 AU

If you study properties of current sheets, turbulence, and intermittency in the solar wind, you are in the right place. A multi-year database of current sheets observed at 1 AU provided by our team will allow you to make a comprehensive statistical analysis of all kinds of dynamical processes associated with current sheets. Using it, one can

(i) Analyze the level of intermittency&turbulence in different streams/flows and compare that with the corresponding parameters observed in the quiet solar wind;

(ii) Understand features of current sheets formed under different conditions;

(iii) Make a spectral analysis, analyze distributions, find solar cycle dependences, etc.

The database can be useful for young scientists as a material to study the solar wind at various scales.

 A new method of automated identification of current sheets represents an essence of our knowledge about typical features observed in the interplanetary magnetic field and the plasma parameters at crossings of thin current sheets in the solar wind. 
     The method has been suggested by Dr. Olga Khabarova and realized by Timothy Sagitov in collaboration with Dr. Roman Kislov under Dr. Khabarova's supervision.
